→ Shop at JC Penney today - for Ellen!

gaywrites:

Bloggers supporting Ellen DeGeneres in the war over her partnership with JC Penney have called for a “shop-in” at the store today.

The campaign around the shop-in wants individuals to unite against One Million Moms, the conservative organization calling for Ellen to be fired from her JC Penney gig.

The campaign encourages people to buy something at JCPenney on Sunday, either in a store or online, or to tweet a photo of themselves in or in front of a JCPenny store (along with the hashtag #jcpshopin).

The story quotes JCPenny’s corporate communications senior manager Kate Coultas as saying, “Standing with our partner Ellen DeGeneres – a person who is renowned for her honesty, integrity, kindness and humor – has been a privilege for all of us at JCPenney. We appreciate all of the kind words and actions in support of our decision.”

Go shopping at JC Penney today! FOR ELLEN!

Act Now: Anti-LGBT Extremists Attack GLSEN PSAs Set to Air at Super Bowl

Friend,

Anti-LGBT extremists are campaigning to make this Sunday’s Super Bowl a showcase for intolerance. I need your help to thank the object of their pressure for standing up to them.

Anti-gay activist Linda Harvey of Mission America is trying to pressure Grazie Media — owner of the Jumbotron outside the Super Bowl stadium in Indianapolis — to cancel air time it generously donated to GLSEN.

That would have meant pulling the plug on highly visible presentations of our ThinkB4YouSpeak public service ads featuring NBA star Grant Hill and comedian Wanda Sykes.

Thank Grazie Media for Standing Strong Against Anti-LGBT Extremism

Grazie Media has stood against the pressure, and we want them to know they did the right thing and have the strongest gratitude of GLSEN supporters. We need your help to send a strong message of support to Grazie Media right now. Yours is critical. Just click on the link above or below, and add your name and email address to our letter.

Grazie Media will know right away that people like you won’t tolerate organized anti-LGBT bigotry.

Harvey and her followers are counting on a wave of publicity about their attack on GLSEN and LGBT and allied youth. Grazie Media must know fair-minded people like you are speaking out, too.

Sign Our Thank-You Letter to Grazie.
Keep the Super Bowl Safe for GLSEN’s Anti-Bullying Message

Thank you for taking immediate action. We’ll keep you posted as this outrageous story unfolds.

→ A step closer to marriage equality in Washington

gaywrites:

Washington’s marriage equality bill, steadily growing in national fame as it garners more support, passed in a Senate committee in the state today and will move on for a floor vote soon.

The Government Operations, Tribal Relations & Elections Committee approved the bill 4-3 yesterday and a date has yet to be set for the floor vote. Versions exist in the House and Senate, with enough votes to pass it in both places, though opponents have already promised to fight for a referendum.

I’m pumped. Are you pumped? I’m pumped.

→ Woman denied partner visitation in hospital, despite laws

gaywrites:

A woman from Tennessee was denied the right to visit her partner in a local hospital because the two are not legally family or spouses, Out and About reports.

Val Burke tried several times to visit her partner in Rolling Hills Hospital’s residential facility and was denied every time. She had been previously allowed in the room only if her partner’s mother was present.

Recent federal laws allow patients at most hospitals - that is, those participating in Medicare and Medicaid - to determine their own visitation standards. This hospital does qualify under that policy, but Burke was denied visitation anyway. The hospital administration has not commented on why this happened.

“I went to visit her at the appropriate visiting time and was turned away,” she says. “We have been living together for three years now, but that didn’t matter to them either. The rest of her family is out of town, so she didn’t have any one visit her.”

This. Is. Not. Acceptable.
